The Hometown Heroes Housing initiative, a key priority for Florida Realtors, has successfully enabled eligible Floridians to become homeowners by offering competitive first mortgage interest rates and other advantages.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – According to the Florida Housing Finance Corporation, the Hometown Heroes Housing program has distributed $61.3 million to 3,745 families across the state within the first month of its third funding cycle. Veterans, active-duty military personnel, nurses, teachers, and law enforcement officers are among the primary beneficiaries of this program.
“Florida Housing takes pride in helping thousands of Florida’s workforce achieve homeownership within their communities,” said Angie Sellers, Chief Financial Officer of Florida Housing Finance Corporation. “The Hometown Heroes Program is transformative. We are honored to support our neighbors in affording homes and fostering community growth. We are grateful for the governor’s ongoing support of Florida’s diligent families.”
The Florida Hometown Heroes program is designed to make homeownership accessible to eligible community workforce members by offering a competitive first mortgage interest rate and additional benefits. Qualified homebuyers can receive up to 5% of their first mortgage loan amount (up to a maximum of $35,000) as a 0%, non-amortizing, 30-year second mortgage.
To qualify, homebuyers must engage with one of Florida Housing’s participating loan officers, maintain a minimum credit score of 640, work full-time for a Florida-based employer, and meet the income requirements for their county.
